Handcrafted Navajo pendant by artist Randy James. This unique pendant features a shape of the Sun.The design is reflective of a Navajo Rug pattern called a "Storm Pattern". The middle apposing triangles are the "eye" of the storm, and the black steps represent storm clouds. Designs and or patterns showing storm clouds, whirl winds and or rain are common with the Navajo people as water is such a vital part of their life.
The black you see in the design is called "JET "and is actually a fossilized wood, which has been compressed over millions of years. Multiple pieces of stone make up the mosaic image. The brown is made up of picture jasper. The red on the ends of the ladies pendant is spiny oyster shell, the red iridescent rectangular shapes are made from cultured opal.
Measurements: 1-3/4" in total length with a width of 1-1/2", the bail is large enough to accommodate up to a 7mm bead or chain.
