10-turquoise stone Navajo bracelet-Pawn Jewelry

Navajo handcrafted bracelet by an unknown artist. It features 10 small round turquoise stones mounted down the center. A detailed stamping pattern is used on either side of the stones. Nicely weighted and easy to wear. This is a wonderful example of a traditional Navajo bracelet. 

It comes attached to its original red pawn ticket.The term "pawn" refers to jewelry that has been pawned to brokers. The practice of pawning jewelry began in the early 1900s when Native Americans and traders would exchange jewelry for food and other necessities, it is still used today and is embedded in the Navajo culture.
