Vintage Spinner Bird Pendant

Very unique find from our Pawn collection! Large pendant features a "spinner" disc with red coral cardinal inlay on one side and a turquoise blue bird inlay on the other. Beautifully and expertly crafted with half-round wire as the "frame" for the smooth decorated disc. Bail sized to fit up to 4mm beads. Measures 2 1/2" all around with a 2" round spinner. The piece comes attached to its original pawn ticket. The term "pawn" refers to jewelry that has been pawned to brokers. The practice of pawning jewelry began in the early 1900's when Native Americans and traders would exchange jewelry for food and other necessities. It is still used today and is embedded in the Navajo culture.
