Lapis & White Buffalo Inlaid Cuff by C. Lincoln

Navajo hand crafted cuff featuring a flush-mount inlay of deep blue lapis and white buffalo stone for a feminine aesthetic. The design alternates between lapis and white white buffalo in triangular, fan-like shapes. The surface is perfectly smooth to the touch, with the stones and sterling silver band forming a single, seamless plane with high shine. Lovely piece!

Stone: Lapis Lazuli – Mines in northeast Afghanistan continue to be a major source of lapis lazuli. It is a stone prized for its intense blue color. The name Lapis Lazuli comes from the Arabic word lazward, from which the word azure comes, which means blue. Ancient Romans used to call it "sapphires," which was subsequently applied to the blue variety of corundum we know today as sapphire. Stone: The White Buffalo stone originates from the Tonopah Nevada area found in the same general veins as Dry Creek turquoise but has no copper content.  Considering this fact, it should therefore NOT be called “white, turquoise” as it does not have the same chemical composition as turquoise, which is a copper phosphate.  There is no copper to cause blue color or iron to cause green color.  It is a mostly clean white calcite/quartz mix with black chert inclusions (matrix) that are more sharply defined as opposed to being smutty.  The better stones have clear delineations of black and white.

Measures: Band tapers from 1/4" to 1/8" at the tips. Inside measurement is 5" with 1 1/4" gap.
