A stunning display of traditional Navajo artistry by Derrick Gordon. This ring was handcrafted in solid sterling silver and features deep hand-stamping radiating from the stone center on a heavy-gauge sterling silver band with deep oxidation. The large, oval-shaped genuine Kingman turquoise stone features a rich brown matrix and setting framed by twisted wire. Derrick was born in Gallup, New Mexico in 1971. His mentor was his uncle, Delbert Gordon. Derrick utilizes fine natural turquoise to create old style traditional jewelry with heavy stamp work.
Measurements: Band measures 1" at its widest point and tapers down to 3/8". The large, oval stone is set in a 3/4" x 5/8" mounting.
Stone: Kingman Turquoise originates in the Mineral Park Mining District near Kingman, Arizona. One of the largest domestic turquoise mines, it is found in a large open pit copper mine in the high desert country. The Kingman Mine district was first mined by Native Americans; it was part of the most extensive prehistoric workings in Arizona.
