Vintage 1970's "chip inlay" bolo tie is made of solid sterling silver with genuine stones and corals. The bolo tie measures 2-1/2" in length with a taper of 1-3/4" to 1". The chip inlay design is that of a thunderbird flying towards the sun. Chip inlay is a method where cavities in jewelry are filled with a mixture of crushed stone, typically turquoise and coral, and epoxy resin. The piece is then polished smooth after the resin has hardened. It is hung on a black leather cord with silver tips. This is a great example of the Navajo chip inlay of this time period.
