Man In the Maze Buckle

This Hopi-made sterling silver belt buckle features a “Man in the Maze” overlay design accented by a small geometric figure at the top of the maze motif. Handcrafted in sterling silver, the buckle combines raised polished surfaces with oxidized recessed overlay work that enhances the depth and symmetry of the design. The softly domed oval shape gives the piece a substantial yet wearable profile. The Man in the Maze design in the recessed area was created using the Hopi Overlay technique, where a top layer with a cut-out design is soldered to a solid base plate. Before the bottom silver plate is joined, a meticulous technique called "matting" is used to create tiny, intentional indentations (seen as tiny etches), catching light from within the oxidized recess to add depth to the design.

Measures approximately 3" x 2" with a 1 1/4" belt receiver.
