This adorable native-made turtle pin/ brooch from our PAWN collection features tortoise shell and turquoise set in a sterling silver channel inlay design. The artist has given the creature an innocent appearance. We find his small toes irresistible! A great find. Measures 2" x 7/8" The piece comes attached to its original pawn ticket. The term "pawn" refers to jewelry that has been pawned to brokers. The practice of pawning jewelry began in the early 1900's when Native Americans and traders would exchange jewelry for food and other necessities. It is still used today and is embedded in the Navajo culture.
