About Dennis Daubs
Dennis Daubs is also known as “Oboweya” (Early morning runner before the kachina dance) and was born in 1960. He is a skilled artisan with a rich heritage, being half Jemez and half San Ildefonso, and a member of the Eagle Clan.
Dennis began his journey into pottery at the age of 18, inspired by his Great-grandmother Maria Sanchez and Grandmother Elvira Gachupin. He sources his own clay and experiments with pottery making. He has mastered traditional hand-coiling, shaping, etching, firing, and polishing pottery outdoors.
Dennis Daubs specializes in handmade sgraffito red or black polished pottery. His work often features detailed etched kachina dancers, animals, and geometric designs. Each piece he creates is challenging, reflecting his dedication and skill.
He signs his Native American pottery as "Dennis Daubs, Jemez Pueblo" for authenticity and a connection to his heritage. His artistry has roots in a rich tradition, making his work highly valued and collectible.
