Pawn Jewelry- Contemporary Navajo bracelet

Navajo handcrafted cuff bracelet made of solid sterling and genuine stones and shells. It features 7 irregular sahped bezels with turquoise and spiny oyster shells. The base of the cuff is heavy guage square wire which gives this piece a heavy feel. This is a contemporary bracelet that is all about the colors ! The artist has stamped his name (Tom Lewis) on the inside of the bracelet. This is not your typical Navajo inlay bracelet, this is a special piece. It comes attached to its original red pawn ticket.The term "pawn" refers to jewelry that has been pawned to brokers. The practice of pawning jewelry began in the early 1900s when Native Americans and traders would exchange jewelry for food and other necessities, it is still used today and is embedded in the their culture.
