About Preston Duywenie
Renowned Hopi artist Preston Duywenie is well-known for his distinctive and honor-winning jewelry and ceramics. He now lives in Santa Clara Pueblo after being reared in Scottsdale, Arizona, and being born on a Hopi reservation.
Painting, sculpture, and jewelry-making were among the many skills he learned to master at the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) in Santa Fe. His main concentration these days is on ceramics, which he successfully combines with his jewelry-making abilities (he especially uses silver ingots).
Preston has received a great deal of recognition for his extraordinary talent. In the renowned Heard Museum Show, he took home the "Best of Show" and "Best in Pottery" awards in 1996 and 1997, respectively.
He won two First Place prizes and a "Challenge Award" in the 1997 Santa Fe Indian Market, establishing himself as one of the best potters in any pueblo today. His avant-garde works honor his Hopi ancestry as well as his own creative development.
